It’s just a very recognizable typeface and my first, and having spent many hours on it, it’s kind of burned into my brain. It’s for the same reason I can easily recognize Gotham, Interstate, Clarendon, Marketing Script, and tons of other common typefaces; outside of the fact that I see them every day, as a designer your eyes just become very familiar with typography and they are trained to look at the little details. Of course, someone could do a rip-off of Gotham or Helvetica, and if the changes are minimal enough, I might not know it. But this typeface hasn’t been around for long, so I doubt someone has ripped it off yet. The geometric rounding of the base rectangular shape, the angle of the cuts (look at the S), and the subtle rounded edges are the defining characteristics of the face.
In response to the licensing, they didn’t contact me as I didn’t and don’t require it for this weight. However, I am curious as to who worked on this so if anyone knows, give me a heads up.

I’m a noob, so I just had a quick question: How do you know that’s your font and not a font that has the same style?
As I’m typing this I’m realizing that maybe they had to contact to to use it commercially? Still, how do you know?

This is awesome! Congratulations!
I love the Franchise Font and use it on heaps of my personal nonn-commercial work!
