Alicia Apeddu

Head Teacher, French PreKindergarten

Alicia Apeddu comes to ISB from Lyon, France. She obtained her Teaching Certification from IUFM in Aix en Provence, France. Alicia has two years classroom teaching experience at the preschool and elementary school levels.

Deepti Dhir

Assistant Teacher, French Nursery

Deepti Dhir recently graduated from Mount Holyoke with a major in French. She spent last summer facilitating a French language immersion program working with a team designing innovative ways of engaging students in language earning. As a result of her own language immersion learning and through her own professional experience, she is a strong supporter of the impact of complete language immersion.

Flor de Maria Gonzalez Castañeda

Co-Head Teacher, Spanish Nursery

After five years in her capacity as an after school teacher and assistant teacher in ISB’s Spanish program, Flor Gonzalez Castañeda is a co-teacher in the Spanish Nursery class. Flor holds a Masters in Early Childhood Education from her home country of Peru and is currently working on a Masters in Education from Tuoro College. Flor has worked as a teacher in many schools both in Peru and New York.

Leticia Gonzalez

Assistant Teacher, Spanish PreKindergarten

Leticia Gonzalez joined ISB three years ago as an assistant teacher and has worked with the Nursery, PreK and Kindergarten classes. For the 2010-2011 school year, Leticia will return to the PreK classroom. Originally from Mexico, Leticia enjoys working with young children in the language immersion setting. Leticia holds Assistant Teacher Certification from both New York State and New York City College of Technology.

Bernadette Robine

Head Teacher, French Nursery

Beginning her teaching career in France five years ago, Bernadette Robine moved to the United States two years ago with her family and joined the ISB faculty in 2009. This year she will lead the French Nursery class. Bernadette received her Teaching Certification from IUFM Creteil, Val de Marne.

Rosa Torres

Head Teacher, Spanish PreKindergarten

Rosa Torres has worked at ISB for five years, first as an assistant teacher and for the past four years as a preschool head teacher. She holds a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and is working on her Masters in Education at Hunter College. Rosa is originally from the Dominican Republic.

Angela Acevido

Assistant Teacher, Spanish Kindergarten

Originally from Colombia, Angela Acevido is a mother of two who enjoys working with children. In 2010, Angela joined the ISB faculty as an assistant preschool teacher. For the 2010-2011 school year, she will join the Kindergarten team as an assistant teacher.

Itzel Barreto

Head Teacher, Spanish Kindergarten

Itzel Barreto joined the ISB faculty in 2009 as a co-teacher in the Kindergarten classroom and looks forward to leading the Kindergarten class this fall. Born in Mexico and raised in the U.S., Itzel received her Bachelors in Early Childhood Education with an extension in Bilingual Education from Hunter College, where she is currently pursuing her Masters in Education.

Carolina Bermudez Diaz de Alda

Spanish Art Teacher, all grades

Carolina holds a Masters of Art Education from New York University. She has taught art to preschool and elementary students for over ten years. Carolina also holds a Bachelors of Fine Art and Modern Dance from Hunter College.

Karina Bustamante

Head Teacher, Spanish 2nd Grade

Karina Bustamante came to ISB two years ago and will continue to lead the 2nd Grade class for the 2010-2011 school year. Originally from Peru, Karina has taught at various schools in Lima since 2000, when she received her Teaching Certification from Champagnat University. She also holds a certification in Special Education from The Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

Shelley Carver

Music Teacher, all grades

Shelley Carver holds a Masters in Music Education from Teachers College Columbia. Shelley has been teaching music in elementary schools for over twelve years, both in public and private schools. She also holds a BFA in Piano Performance.

Elsa Fausser

Head Teacher, French 1st Grade

Born and raised in France, Elsa Fausser jumped at the chance to come to Brooklyn two years ago, where her mother spent her childhood. And after spending her first two years as the head teacher in a preschool classroom, this year Elsa will head the 1st Grade class. Elsa received her Teaching Certification from IUFM de Bonneuil and taught for three years in France.

Cathleen Forrest

English Teacher, 4th Grade / Science Teacher, K-4th Grades

Cathleen Forrest holds a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Child Development and Washington State Teaching Certification and is pursuing a Masters in French Studies. Cathleen will be entering her eighth year as a classroom teacher. Most recently, Cathleen was the lower school English teacher at the Lycée Français de New York, where she taught for three years. Cathleen is no stranger to International Schools and IB programs, with prior experience teaching at The International School of Lausanne in Switzerland.

Jean Louis Frenk

French Art Teacher, all grades

Jean Louis Frenk holds a BFA in Ceramic Arts and has been a self-employed ceramist for the last two decades. Jean Louis has seven years of art classroom teaching experience, four of which he spent teaching at a school in Zurich. Jean Louis’s approach to teaching art is based on three fundamental aspects: process, art technique and art history, and he looks to bring all three to the classroom while exposing students to diverse art mediums. Jean Louis is also fluent in German. After being a stay at home dad for the last seven years, he is eager to get back to the classroom.

Emmanuelle Garcia-Guillen

Head Teacher, French 3rd Grade

Emmanuelle Garcia-Guillen received her Bachelors degree in Education from l’Universite de Toulouse-Le Mirail and her Teaching Certification from IUFM de Carcassonne. Emmanuelle has over eight years experience teaching elementary school children. She also enjoys studying languages and speaks Spanish, English, German and Italian.

Alison Genovese

English Teacher, 2nd and 3rd Grades

Alison Genovese has worked at ISB for four years and has been in the teaching field for 13 years. This year she will again lead the 2nd and 3rd Grade English classes. Originally from Massachusetts, Alison received her Masters in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge.

Michele Genuard

Head Teacher, French 2nd Grade

Entering her third year at ISB this fall, Michele Genuard will again lead the 2nd Grade class. Born and raised in Northern France, Michele came to the U.S. twenty years ago and completed her Masters in Teaching from Queens College in 2005. Before joining the ISB faculty, Michele taught at various schools in Long Island where she lives with her family.

Belen Hernandez Sanchez

Head Teacher, Spanish 4th Grade

Belen Hernandez Sanchez comes to ISB with a Bachelors degree in education from the University of Madrid. Belen is currently completing her Masters in Psychopedagogy. Belen has taught for five years in bilingual schools both in Spain and in the UK and Ireland, three of which were in a fourth grade classroom.

Adriana Lores

Head Teacher, Spanish 1st Grade

Adriana Lores was born in Puerto Rico and later moved to Spain. She received her Masters Degree in Foreign Language Education from Universidad de Alcala and her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Universidad Camilo Jose Cela, both in Spain. Adriana has taught 1st and 2nd grades at an IB school in Spain and more recently was the PYP Coordinator for three years at an International School in Madrid.

Sabine Massoma Toco

Head Teacher, French Kindergarten

Sabine Massoma Toco was born in Cameroon and raised in Paris, France. She joined ISB three years ago as an assistant teacher and has led her own class for the past two years. Prior to coming to ISB, Sabine taught for seven years at Lyceum Kennedy. Sabine holds a Masters in Social and Economic Administration from the University of Paris XIII.

Oscar Pau

Head Teacher, Spanish 3rd Grade

Oscar Pau obtained his Bachelors degree in Elementary School Teaching in 1996 from Jaume I University in Spain. Oscar spent the majority of the last ten years as a head teacher in 1st–4th grade classrooms in a Catalan/Spanish language immersion school in Spain. Oscar also recently obtained his Bachelors degree in ESL.

Alvaro Perez-Solis

Physical Education Teacher, Spanish K-4th Grades

Alvaro Perez-Solis holds a Masters Degree in Physical Education from University of Extremadura in Spain and a Masters in High Performance Team Sports from the University of Granada also in Spain. In 2010, Alvaro also obtained the New Jersey Teacher Certification in Physical Education. Alvaro has spent the last ten years coaching and teaching physical education classes at all levels.

Heidi Rammer

English Teacher, Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Heidi Rammer’s teaching career has taken her from New Hampshire to Turkey and finally to Brooklyn for the past two years. This fall, Heidi will enter her third year at ISB as one of the English teachers. She received her Teacher Certification in New Hampshire and holds a Bachelors degree in Geology from Wellesley College.

Nicola Sale

Physical Education Teacher, French K-4th Grades

Nicolas Sale has a Masters in Science and Technology of Physical Education and Sporting Activities from the University of Paris. Nicola has over 15 years experience teaching in the field of physical education. For ten years he was the physical instructor for elementary students in Coulommier, France. Nicola is an established rugby and wrestling athlete himself.

Celine Schaffner

Assistant Teacher, French Kindergarten

Celine Schaffner joined the Kindergarten team this fall as assistant teacher following two years as an assistant teacher in a preschool class at ISB. Originally from France, Celine holds a Masters in Ancient History from Marc Bloch University and has worked in the education field in both France and Italy.

Muriel Stallworth

Head Teacher, French 4th Grade

Muriel Stallworth has been involved with ISB since its inception, first as a member of the Board of Directors and for the past three years as the Educational Director. This year, Muriel will return to the classroom part time as the French 4th Grade teacher. She will also keep one foot in the administration in her part time roles as French Language and PYP Coordinator. Muriel received her Teaching Certification from École Normale de Saint Étienne in 1988.
